DESCRIPTION:In collaboration with the New-York Historical Society\, the Bryant Park Reading Room presents a series of free lectures on a wide array of topics including the American Revolution\, presidential biography\, women’s suffrage\, and more. \nServing as diplomat\, secretary of state\, and longest-serving Chief Justice of the United States in history\, John Marshall played a critical role in the shaping of the country during the Revolutionary War era and the decades that followed. Legal scholar Joel Richard Paul shares the remarkable story of Marshall\, who was instrumental in establishing the independence of the judiciary and defending the nation’s sovereignty in its fragile early years. \nJoel Richard Paul\, author of Without Precedent: Chief Justice John Marshall and His Times\, teaches international economic law\, foreign relations\, and constitutional law at the University of California Hastings Law School\, where he is also the Associate Dean. \nLOCATION – This program will be held at the Reading Room in Bryant Park. The Reading Room is located on the 42nd Street side of the park between 5th and 6th Avenues. Look for the yellow and white umbrellas.
